The certificate of probity corresponded to the present-day proof of clean criminal record. It was conformation from the police that a person had no crime or other irregularity on their record. As today, this confirmation was issued for many reasons, which are usually given on the application form. During the period of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, Jews mostly needed the certificate in order to arrange emigration.
